Veronica Benton, aka The Faceless Woman, gave us some insight on the single and the record as well.

“The entire album was inspired by the death of TD’s little brother, Dan. He was 27 and died in a head-on collision. It was the most difficult time of our lives to date. When TD wrote this song, Black Heart Hearse, he was feeling like he seriously needed to be in the insane asylum. He actually spent time at the Arkansas State Mental Hospital when he was 15, so it’s a bit reminiscent of that time in his life.”

Lyrics:

Black heart hearse
It’s the way you feel death doesn’t seem real
Black heart hearse
Take a little pill if it keeps you numb and still

Sin crept in, let me begin
Life’s like the dead
You can change my friend
You’ve got to dig down deep, beneath the skin
The filthy hole, down below
Cut the stem, the end

Black heart hearse
Take a little pill if it keeps you numb and still
Black heart hearse
Come and get your fill, padded walls are such a thrill

Black heart hearse
Come and get your fill, padded walls are such a thrill
Black heart hearse
City on a hill, iron bars above the sill

Thanks to Rob Shameless for setting this up.
