Remember the band Seven Day Jesus? Many of you probably have no clue who they are or were but that will all change when frontman Brian McSweeney funds his new album through kickstarter. You see, Seven Day Jesus were an alternative rock band that began in the 90′s, released several important albums then broke up far too early. Bands like Seven Day Jesus, Black Eyed Sceva (Model Engine), Plankeye, etc all were around the same time as Switchfoot yet these bands all shared something in common that Switchfoot hasn’t quite endured yet, and that’s the BREAKUP! So many of these “alternative” rock bands could have been just as big, important, and plastered across magazines much the same way Switchfoot has if they only would have continued. That’s enough of my rant, consider helping Brian in his quest to fund a new solo outing and please check out those “classic” bands I mentioned earlier. [Source: The Classic Christian Rock Site]

Hahaha. Nice
There were some amazingly talented bands in this era. I was not a HUGE fan of 7 Day, but was blown away by Black Eyed Sceva (later Model Engine), Poor Old Lu, Plankeye, Dime Store Prophets, Dryve, Prayer Chain, etc. All these bands had tremendous talent that I would have put up against ANY secular band from the same time. Dryve definitely broke up too soon……
The Prayer Chain, Poor Old Lu, Dime Store Prophets, and Dryve were all great alt-rock bands during the 90′s. I love those groups.
Dryve and Seven Day Jesus were my bands! still listen to Dryve all the time as “Nervous” is one of my all time favorite songs! oh, and “Everybody Needs Love” from SDJ was and is such an amazing song. i’ll definitely be supporting this!
Gosh the late 90′s/early 00′s were great times for xtian indie/rock. I saw SDJ with Plankeye, one of my first legit shows that wasn’t some ccm stuff. Brandon, have you done a poll of fave late 90′s xtian indie/rock bands?
I think I might have done a poll a few years ago but I forget. I need someone to compile a list of every alt rock/indie band they remember from that time period and I’ll make another poll. I remember many of them but I am sure there are others I might miss.
If memory serves me correctly, I listened to “Always Comes Around” from Seven Day Jesus’s second album back-to-back-to-back for about 3 weeks straight. (My memory might be a little off.) I couldn’t believe these guys didn’t release another album after their Forefront debut…
This makes me very happy. I loved the first album!!! And it’s still one I pull out and play regularly.
Wow. SDJ! I still listen to their first cd. Great vocals on that album. I was supposed to see them once but they broke up right before the festival I was attending. Oh well, at least I still got to see Johnny Q. Public =).
Greatest vocals of all time. I’ve been following Brian McSweeny for years. I loved SDJ. He had another band called Matthew that released an album called Everybody Down that is one of the greatest alternative/pop-rock albums ever. Brian also had a solo ep a couple of years ago that was really solid. This is good news.
I was too young to be into any kind of music when they were around but I found out about them later on. Love Always Comes Around. Got the album it came off of but it’s got “don’t copy that floppy” software on it so I can’t put it on my computer -_-
