Thorough Living Sacrifice Discography Discussion (Bruce F. Years)

Well it’s a new year, and along with it come high hopes for a new Living Sacrifice release, and there are a few signs that this may be the year.

1. December tweets from LS members said they were planning the next album
2. They mentioned in early 2011 they hoped to put a new album out in 2011
3. I have been praying relentlessly for a new album in 2012

A good friend of mine, and long-time IVM member/poster, Matthew C. Alexander, put up a thorough review/discussion of all the Living Sacrifice releases since Bruce took over on vocals. It got me really pumped for the possibility of a new album.

How do you rank the last 4 Albums/1 EP of LS?

  1. Sweet! thank you so much Steve. I totally appreciate the pub. I’m stoked for a new LS album. Definitely my most anticipated for 2012.

They are putting out another album. I don’t consider them liars. They posted on Facebook what is your most anticipated new album, besides another LS record.
To me this is how they rank:
    1. Guessing the EP is the three songs they did on the Best Of record.
    2. Reborn
    3. Conceived
    4. Infinite
    5. Hammering

  3. The EP was Death Machine in ’08. Great list!

I hate being “that guy” but…

    I dont get the hype…
I get that they redefined the genre…I really do…but besides a few songs, none of their music stays with me or makes me come back

The self-titled and Nonexistent are better than all of those.

And Jake, I used to feel the same way. Then I listened to their old albums…

…just kidding. The new stuff isn’t that bad, but honestly it never really did click with me either. So, I know where you’re coming from. I did revisit Reborn about a month ago and have to say it is really great.

I’m so anxious for news on a 2012 album. Infinite Order was such a brutal album (along with the Glasshouses bonus song). LS is one of those few bands which I have trouble actually ranking their albums. I have to admit, IO is #1 on most days.

Yea Kev, those songs own..or pwn! HA! DT, those first albums rocked too. Self-titled is my favorite with DJ on vocals. I own all of Living Sacrifice’s cds (and 2 dvds) and like all of it but I love and prefer Bruce on vocals.

Good news! I love all of LS with Bruce on it so much. I even like LS without Bruce for the first 3 albums and have every single LS album. I love their first one (self-titled) with DJ on vocals from that era the most. For Bruce on vocals, I can’t think of the order! But I DO know that The Hammering Process is #1. Such a classic album! Actually, I love them all. They are my favorites. I also love The Infinite Order so much. Hype deserved. My opinion, don’t hate me Jake…or DT. HAHA!

Death Machine was a great return/comeback little EP and LS definitely deserves the hype, why the hate “that guy?” I mean judging from when they reunited and the incredibly awesome 2 song EP, hype is deserved in my opinion. That EP has 2 songs of awesome that only LS could do. I mean, it is just 2 songs. But those 2 songs are so intense and so great that I believe the hype is warranted to them on that note alone. I mean, I copied those 2 songs onto a cd when they came out and I listen to that cd so much more than a lot of full albums by other albums I have. I have never listened to an EP (or single really, that death machine should probably be called a single. Only 2 songs. HA!) that much as I have with Death Machine. Anyways, hype or no hype these guys are and will always be my favorites.

OK, thinking about it I “think” I came up with my list (although I love them all the same really, except for The Hammering Process which I love more than the others):

      1. The Hammering Process – So Brutal, so intense. This is LS! The percussion sounds so good. Listen to Bloodwork and Hand of the Dead. Matt puts an awesome tribal vibe with his percussion skills. It’s something sort of like Sepultura into the mix. Sounds awesome, especially with Lance’s already amazing drumming skills. Lance is one of the best drummers around (he pretty much replicates what Matt does live now ALL BY HIMSELF. Not kidding, I don’t know how he does it but these older songs sound kind of like they do when they had Matt on percussion) Anyways, then mix in the guitars with Rocky Gray (one of my favorite guitarists) joining them now, Arthur Green on bass now, Bruce on vocals…Living Sacrifice. That is all I have to say. Just turn on the album and leave it. It is so good. Flatline is one of the best songs ever and that is what kicks this cd off. This song always gets me pumped and the lyrics hit so hard as well. GREAT CD, #1 I’m thinking.

      2. The Infinite Order/Death Machine (tied I guess because DM is so awesome and a lot of times I listen to them both side by side. Especially now since I copied The Infinite Order bonus tracks on the deluxe edition onto a disc with the DM EP. Seriously, people should listen to the EP then the Infinite Order and the bonus tracks in all its glory. Such an awesome experience, not just a listen. HA! I love Death Machine and The Battle so much I don’t know which song I like on EP more. That is saying something) Long parenthesis paragraph. Oh well. The Death Machine Ep never leaves my car. That’s saying something. AND..

      - The Infinite Order is so good. It’s a comeback album and is awesome. That doesn’t happen all the time especially when bands reunite or take time off then come out with something. It didn’t come up short in my book. It has some of my favorite LS songs on it. It fits more than well with the LS “canon” so to speak. Organized Lie, Nietzsche’s Madness, Rules of Engagement…every song stands out in my opinion. I have different favorite songs every week! This is what a classic album. This is LS.

      3. Reborn – OK. I said the word “classic” a lot already. But this actually I think is one. This could be #1 on the list, but my opinion changes so much. This is rebirth of a band. DJ left, Bruce took over vocals and the rest is history. I mean seriously, when this kind of move happens, it isn’t always the best but with LS, it worked and for the best. Reborn, Reject, Threatened…all songs good but Reject is one of my favorite LS songs. Sounds so good live and every time I have seen them they play it. Amazing stuff. Another point, people should see these guys live, they are one of the best, if not THE BEST band to see live.

      4. Conceived In Fire – This is really good too. The really sweet tribal percussion by Matt Putman is back and it is an added bonus to the already mastery of the drums by Lance! Rocky’s sweet slayer-esque solos get even better. Arthur on bass thumping Bruce on the axe and vocals sound so good. Imminent War, The Poisoning, The Martyr, Send Your Regrets, Reach for the Sky are my favorites. Reach for the Sky is a great ending unlike any other album I have. So heavy in the beginning then it just gets so worshipful. I can’t explain it. Great song, great cd, great band.

It is hard to list these albums (the Bruce albums) because they pretty much change for me daily. The phrase “I love them all” actually seems quite right with me. All in all, I’m excited for what’s to come for these guys. At first I didn’t think I was going to write so long, but it just happened. I had to get a list. It was very hard to do that. HAHA!

No hate, sir. Good breakdown of the albums, thanks for sharing. The Hammering Process is definitely my favorite of the newer albums. I think Reborn is technically the best of the newer albums, but I enjoy The Hammering Process the most.

  8. MattR says:

Cool DT, thanks! Yea, I love all Living Sacrifice. You are right about Reborn, but I just seem to also enjoy The Hammering Process the most too.

Yea Phil, I know what you mean! HAHA! They are all good. Unless you didn’t mean it like that…

    • MattR,

Of course i ment that ther all gud, lol. Who in ther rite mind wud say any ls album is bad? If they do then they need ther hed examined, lol.

    • MattR says:

HAHA Phil! So true. LS is one of those bands where listening to an album just isn’t a listen for me. It’s an experience. It’s a good time, it’s good tunes with no filler, it’s heavy, it gets you pumped up, it makes you not be able to sit still (especially at work at my desk), it’s worship…it is Living Sacrifice!

I can’t wait for the new album…whenever that is. It’s ok if it isn’t soon, whenever it comes out it will be worth the wait. I don’t mind if it is in a couple years from now. As long as they are still together and making music, I will be happy! Especially if they are touring. A Living Sacrifice show is unlike any other!

I like songs from every album. Reborn was solid and heavy, the hammering process was great, and concieved in fire had its moments. The infinite order wasn’t bad. It was similar to cif for me cause it had its great songs and its average songs. Overall i’d probably go with hammering process for my fav living sacrifice with bruce on vocals.
