The following bands mentioned on my list are NOT Christian:
Erra, Vildhjarta, Structures, Volumes, For The Fallen Dreams, Yellowcard, Substructure, Elitist, Corelia, Textures, Ten After Two, Born Of Odiris, and We Came As Romans

    • Luke94 says:

so glad you put Masstaden at number 2. that album is insane. glad to see someone else knows who they are. also that substructure EP is amazing. But you forgot Eden 2.0 by Tesseract!

    • Jake C says:

I didn’t forget it I just think the songs/albums mentioned were better :/. I wanted to love “One”, it was just really flat. Impressive, but the production makes it feel flat to me. And I haven’t had the time to check out “Eden 2.0″, but I heard there’s no screaming and I loved that about the original version.

The song I left off was “Traces” by Vildhjarta. I do think that album is best listened to straight through, kinda like Tesseract’s “One”, but with a better mix and a little more ambitious.

Just my thoughts though. I still enjoy Tesseract :) I’m stoked for the new Periphery album next year hbu? Apparently Spencer used absolutely zero autotune or pitch corrector on the new album :D

    • Luke94 says:

yeah, definitely check out Eden 2.0. much better production and the new singer is phenomenal! yeah, traces is ridiculous! although i prefer the older instrumental version. Yeah new periphery should be sick!

This was a not too bad year! Foo Fighters, Thrice, and o’brother were all big standouts for me. I still haven’t had the chance to really check out Switchfoot’s latest yet.

Next year means new Showbread, probably new Moving Mountains, (hopefully) new The Mars Volta, and new Blood and Water, and those are enough for me to be stoked, lol. :)

    • Derek O. says:

Every time I try and listen to Phinehas, I think to myself, “If I’m going to listen to an As I Lay Dying knock off band, I’d rather listen to the original.”

    • silentthunder89 says:

So just because they have strong screams, good clean singing, and lots of lead guitar they’re an As I Lay Dying knockoff? There’s more to their music than that.

    • Derek O. says:

Ehhhhhh…… To quote the great Chasing Victory, “If you are feeling original, don’t let it go to your head, it’s all been done before.”

    • metalhunter says:

If you didn’t know, As I Lay Dying has two vocalists. Phinehas has one. Besides the band has a different sound than AILD.

Wow. I usually disagree with people, but this year I am totally off from what y’all got. I can’t express enough how important the two albums are on my “best of” list. It would be well worth your time to check out both albums.

Last year, I only put albums that I rated 8.5 or higher in my “best of”. If any album had more than 3 tracks that I skip, then I didn’t put it in the “best of”.

I did the same this year.

    THE BEST ALBUMS OF 2011
    1. Shai Linne, “The Attributes of God”
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a “game changer”. Check out the slow flow on “Lord of Patience”, check out the incredible beats on “Triune Praise (remix)”, “The Glory of God”, “The Omnis” and “Taste and See”. A lot of good hip hop came out in 2011 – certainly more than in any other genre -, but this was the best.
    2. Creations “The Gospel”
This album is totally heavy with great lyrics. No clean singing, mega breakdowns, superbly percussive.

Honorable mentions: Braille “Native Lungs”, Da’ TRUTH “The Whole Truth”, Tedashii “Blacklight”, A Plea For Purging “The Life and Death of A Plea For Purging”, Pristina featuring Annabel Adams “The Killing Jar”, The Echoing Green “In Scarlet and Vile”, Lorenguard “Eve of Corruption”.

THE WORST ALBUM OF 2011: Hillsong “Aftermath”.

    THE BEST ALBUMS OF 2010
    1. Lampmode Records “The Church: Called & Collected”
    2. Messengers “Anthems”
    3. Living Sacrifice “The Infinite Order”
    4. Json “City Lights”
    5. Evangel “Expository Journey”,
    6. Overcome “The Great Campaign of Sabotage”
    7. Jamiroquai “Rock Dust Light Star” (not available in the USA and I’m not paying to have it imported, so I’ve only streamed it)
Honorable mentions: Daft Punk “Tron Legacy” score, the Human League “Credo”, Decipha “Rep”. I spent much of 2010 and 2011 still listening to 2009′s Thieves and Liars “American Rock N Roll” and Huntingtons “Punk Sounds”.

THE ONLY ANTICIPATED ALBUMS OF 2012:
Living Sacrifice, Timothy Brindle, and Flatfoot 56

    • BC says:

Sleeping Giant was for me an incredible album. I haven’t done a list or compared it to other albums, but it is definitely up there! Getting to meet Tommy and see the band at Sonshine was also incredible!

Hands also put out a great album, and it was great to see them live as well (though it meant missing FF5 – not much of a sacrifice, considering I’ve seen them before and wasn’t too impressed.).

    • Brody B says:

I’m not sure why, but I’ve never really been able to get fully in to them. I thought the new cd was pretty good though! I think I put it at about 22 which is leagues above how much I’ve enjoyed their other stuff. I really like them live though.

    • stevo says:

@ Loren Wade: I agree with you man!!! Sleeping Giant would have been my No. 1 also!!! Followed by Saving Grace and (@Boaz, this is for you:-) BTA!!! I haven’t listened to the new albums of Theocracy and Life in Your Way yet though… they might come before BTA in my list… oh, I almost forgot about Lecrae’s “Rehab” and “God is Able” from Hillsong…

    • Justin (the other) says:

My #2 album this year. Unbelievable album. So empowering!!

    • Boaz says:

Lol @ Stevo and I agree about Saving Grace. Got to throw Phinehas some love too.

  16. Boaz says:

I am to embarrassed to post my list but that BTA was not on any above probably means would just get ridiculed anyway.

    • iamjustin says:

yeah no one really mentioned joyce manor or vacation, the joyce manor album blew my mind, my friend told me to check it out and i was so happy he did. spraynard is my love for pop punk, its good late 90s early 2000s pop punk and i love it.

now looking at it, my list is so odd, the last 8 go together, but the first two are kind of random

    1. The Gun Show- Discontentment
    2. Gideon- Costs
    3. In the Midst of Lions- Shadows
    4. August Burns Red- Leveler
    5. Love Begotten- Ugly, Dirty, Poor.
HM- Not One is Upright- God is Not a Watchmaker, and the World Isn’t Ticking.
Top Not- APFP, Their Life and Death or whatever (It was solid, but man… Son, I am disappoint.)

100% without a doubt, if The Gun Show went with Facedown (they were offered, but felt that wasn’t what God wanted for them), they would have been on Scream the Prayer this year and “Discontentment” would be in the top 10 for everyone’s metal list. So unique, that album pushed the boundaries of what Christ-centered aggressive music can be. Also, no one knows them, but Love Begotten’s “Ugly, Dirty, Poor” is probably better than The Chariot’s “Long Live.” I said it and stand by it.

    Top Not-Christian Album (for me)
    shitbird- Dropping a Deuce http://datathrash.bandcamp.com/album/dropping-a-deuce
Pure insanity, this is probably the heaviest a Game Boy ever sounded. If you like trying new things, you will not be disappointed.

  22. Oh, Sleeper’s – Children of Fire was such a weak sauce album. Shane really needs to stop with the Nickelback acoustic crap. Just saying, talented guy but needs to know that Oh, Sleeper is not the place for that.

How anyone can compare anything Oh, Sleeper has done to Nickelback is beyond me. I thought Means to Believe was amazing and a nice break from the heaviness on Children of Fire. I hate how some people listen to metal so long it’s like they can’t appreciate anything soft anymore.

    • Dan S. says:

“Children of Fire was such a weak sauce album”…
Yet its in your top metal album list.
      That made sense…

    • Chandler A. says:

Amen Lucas. Means to Believe lyrically has such a deep meaning, especially considering Shane wrote it about his own life and it originally wasn’t even intended for the album. And it’s pretty much insanely beautiful musically too…

Chandler, Living Sacrifice’s The Infinite Order came in 2010. AWESOME album though. It’s one of my favorites too! Anyways, they are planning on having a new album in 2012 though! Should I say next year? It just sounds weird because “next year” is in a few days. HA!

    • Chandler A. says:

Oh yeah haha I guess idk why I was thinking that. That thing hasn’t stopped playing since then. Maybe it’ll be in my top albums of the year every year ;) And they were talking about writing a covers album, which, in my opinion would be awesome!

    • MattR says:

Me too Chandler. I’m listening to it now. It’s one of my favorites for sure! 2010 was an awesome year. Living Sacrifice’s and Demon Hunter’s albums of last year are still in my rotation since they came out. Not to mention the War of Ages, Haste the Day, and Disciple albums that year too. Top 5 of last year for sure. But those LS and DH albums…man. Too good! They are also my favorite bands though.

A Living Sacrifice covers album? That sounds awesome! I didn’t know. That would be cool if it happened. Thanks Chandler!

    • Boaz says:

I don’t want an album of LS doing covers but and album of newer bands doing LS covers would be AWESOME.

    • Chandler A. says:

It was awhile ago they talked about it, so I actually doubt they’d do it. But hm maybe some cover songs, who knows. But not sure I agree with you @Boaz, depends on what band would be covering LS and what song too. I’d honestly be more stoked for LS doing covers :)

Overall, a great year with releases from many of my top 10 favorite bands that either lived up to my expectations or came really close. I was expecting Thrice to be better but for some reason it just never clicked with me the way their past 3 or 4 releases have. Still a great album nonetheless. I guess some might wonder about BtA being so high but that album remains my favorite summer metal release and I still have more fun spinning it then any metal album. Also, Sainthood Reps wins my award of best debut and best new band. Look forward to hearing more from them in the future. That album blew me away.

    • I know, that’s a weird thought considering I loved their first two albums so much. It’s right there with #15. I just couldn’t really get into it though. I loved the clean singing and softer songs the most. The heavier stuff had some cool moments but overall I’ve heard it from them before. It’s no coincidence that the heavy stuff I do have on my list aren’t at all metalcore and are more experimental. That’s the heavy stuff I like and I like the more ‘experimental’ songs from Oh Sleeper the most.
