Preson Phillips has released his critically acclaimed new album titled “Wrath” both digitally and on CD here. You can also purchase the album through iTunes / Amazon or get a 4 song sampler of the album at Come and Live here. I highly recommend this album.
Listen: It Lives….
“It lives, it speaks, it pleads!” is the hook of the chorus, and it is speaking of the beckoning call of the blood of Christ. What seems like such a grim topic of conversation, blood and death, is set into an uptempo and, almost joyful, chord structure. It creates the great paradox of the gospel, death = life. The scriptures are quite clear, to gain our lives, we must lose them. “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” – Matthew 16:25. This same story is all throughout creation. We see it in the changing of seasons, when the leaves must fall and the forests appear dead so that the bounty of fruits and nuts can appear in the following season. We see it in nature, where one animal must die to provide life for another. We see it every evening, looking forward to a new day, the sun must set on the old one. And we see it in the gospel of Jesus Christ who laid down his own flesh and let the blood flow form his veins so that we could receive new life!
How great the blood that ran for sinful natures needs! It broke the curse, it lives it speaks it pleads!
This is the second song on my upcoming release, “Wrath”, which is due out on November 5th. This album has a sweeping parabola that runs from the very somber introductory song called “Mournful Things”, a 7 minute narrative of the crucifixion of Christ written in 3rd person, straight through to a proclamation that there is a God who is in control and is sovereign even in suffering.
This record is being released in conjunction with a fundraiser that my church is doing to raise money for a new home that will provide the facilities to effectively minister in our neighborhood. The first half of the record is free, through Come&Live!, and the second half will be available in all online stores and through physical CD’s (and will eventually be free also). All of the proceeds will go directly to Watermark Church in Tampa, where I minister as senior pastor, and will be used to launch ministries that will provide counseling for the hurting, food for the poor, friendship for the lonely, and life to all who hear the message of the Gospel in Tampa.
Grace and Peace to you all, I can’t wait for you to hear what we’ve been working on for the last year and a half.
