oh man… this is gonna be good. Im really digging the slightly more melodic sound they got this time around, too. I mean, i really dug the last album.. but some of the stuff seemed to kinda run together.

I didn’t really catch a spiritual message in the video at all… I could’ve just missed it though. For me it just kind of reminded me of the For Today video for the song “Agape”. Some dude gets cheated on by his girlfriend and he gets mad. I guess I was just hoping a video by the Great Commission would have some sort of super cool message or something. I don’t know…

Well, I know I can relate to this video, and maybe you’re trying to over-spiritualize it? Because if you think about it, the state of a lot of teenage “Christians” can’t separate worldly actions and living a spirit-filled life. So you take the main guy, and he’s having to decide whether he’s wanting to be a part of the world, which includes having a crappy girlfriend, or *ahem* “draw the line” and get out of a poisonous environment. Honestly, I feel like this video had more to do with the song than most videos I’ve seen lately, and despite me not liking this band very much, it actually helped me enjoy the song more.

    • David M says:

Teenagers or adults. I said teenagers because of the video, but there are plenty of older “Christians” who still serve and worship the world before Christ.

You mentioned that you were disappointed by the For Today video “Agape”? Admittedly, the video wasn’t based on some grand concept. But with the word “Agape” meaning love, the video was about love, both genuine and counterfeit. The video reflected greatly on the way the world counterfeits the true spirit of agape love. To enjoy the video, you just need simple understanding on what it’s actually being presented.

Justin, you misunderstood what I meant about the “Agape” video. I didn’t say that I don’t like it, I just meant that the stories in the two videos are pretty much the same. And David, I ended up watching the video again and yeah I think I may have been trying to over-spiritualize it a bit. I definitely do see what you are saying. Like I said originally, I think I just over looked the meaning behind it initially.

I support the band, but… not digging the video very much. It took me a few listens to enjoy the song too.

I like the pop punk element. Their songwriting on Every Knee was kind of wonky (weird/off sounding transitions) but maybe the pop punk influence will help them structure their songs better–this one sounds good. So, I’m hoping it’s part of their sound throughout the album.

I’m all about structure, and I agree, “Every Knee” did have wonky structure, haha. I love that word. That being said, I just personally don’t like this song, and it’s not because of the change. I’m all for change. That’s why I still love Thrice. I just need to hear more before I lay my verdict down. But I agree with you. It’s grown on me the past few weeks.

Seems a lot of people are not happy with this song. It was ok, I think it was better than their whole last album if you ask me. Because it sounded like one long song. It’s a little different, but not straying too much from the norm though.

I still think the chorus reeks of a Day to Remember.
