I’m glad other people love Anberlin because I think Stephen Christian is an awesome person and musician, but I’m glad not the only one who doesn’t get into their new stuff… I would’ve called the 2010 album a disappointment except I didn’t expect much after New Surrender. Musically I thought it was on par with Cities but personally I can’t get past the ridiculously hopeless lyrics.
*sigh* It’s so weird how everyone turned on Anberlin over the last four years. I’m not in the party that thinks New Surrender was a complete fail, but I definitely think it’s their weakest work. Dark Is the Way…, in my opinion, was exactly what Anberlin needed to show they still could bring the big guns and not get completely caught up in radio-friendliness. It’s no Cities, but it’s possibly their second-best. Again, I don’t get why so many people hate them now (or even think them to be mediocre); they stepped up their game exactly how they should’ve.
no i don’t hate them, i just liked the faster louder stuff. when i got into Anberlin it was because of Paperthin Hymn and playing with bands like Greeley Estates/Story of the Year. This new record doesn’t really have any of that, for me. i really like New Surrender, i thought it was fun and catchy. but i don’t hate them.
New Surrender > Dark is the Way
Well, IMO…
Also, [Insert ribbing about Tswift making the list here]
:P
You we disappointed by War of Ages – Eternal? I didn’t think it was their best (That’s Pride of the Wicked), but it was still a solid 8.5/10 for me. What didn’t you like?
you know, i listened to Eternal over and over, trying to like it and it just never really hit me. songs were okay but few songs stood out against the rest, it was all kind meh for me.
