Jeremy Camp has been around for quite awhile now. His studio discography spans 6 albums, 2 of them being worship albums, as well as 2 live albums. The new album just happens to be his 2nd studio worship album titled “We Cry Out: The Worship Project”. The title is fitting because it seems like Jeremy Camp is Crying Out as well as calling us to Cry Out, to let the whole world know that Jesus Saves.

- “Jesus Saves”, that’s exactly how this album starts off. It’s an excellent first single which just so happens to be all over contemporary christian radio. While you can definitely here CCM throughout, it’s not done in a way that’s going to distract you from the worship aspect of this album.

- Most CCM has a real watered down message but Jeremy continues his bold, up-front message of the Gospel in second track “Not Ashamed”. He proudly proclaims

I’m not ashamed of the Gospel
I’m not ashamed of Jesus Christ
I will stand and boldly say
This is my life

Not Ashamed is by far my favorite track on the album. It’s one of those songs that I will continue to go to for the rest of my life, especially if I’m facing trials or tribulations, because the Lord Jesus Christ is my Savior and how could I ever not proclaim the Gospel.

- The next track “The Way” is a nice ballad of how wonderful God’s creation really is. Sometimes we need to take the time out of our hectic and busy schedule to just stop and admire the sun shining through the clouds on the eve of a summer thunderstorm. To stand amazed at how your 7th month old child is learning how to crawl and learning new things. This world is not our home but we can still marvel at its creation because it was originally intended for us unblemished. Just think how beautiful this place would be if sin never entered it.

- The next track has been done and re done and re sung so many times I wish it would stop. When I saw that Jeremy did a cover of “Mighty To Save” I was very disappointed. I figured this was going to be a filler track but I’m proved wrong as this version of Mighty To Save just so happens to be one of my favorite versions. Jeremy has the rock voice that just seems to make this track come alive unlike others that have covered this song and made it sound stale.

- “We Cry Out” starts out with a simple beat. I kept picturing a dance remix of this song. Maybe BEC Recordings will come out with a Jeremy Camp remix album at some point. If so then a trance version of this song done right would sound awesome. Until then we have this number which seems to fall a little flat.

- “You Are The Lord” comes next which happens to feature Jeremy’s wife, Adie Camp. Her voice really compliments the song in the background as Jeremy’s upfront singing

You give life to us all
And you breathe on us Your spirit
We will walk in Your ways
As a light unto the nations
You go before us Father you protect us
Father you provide for us all

- Jeremy seems to know how to take other peoples songs and make them sound refreshing. With “Everlasting God” he’s two for two with remaking an extremely popular, overdone song and giving some extra life to it.

- “Overcome” is well………really awesome! Just read these lyrics

Seated above, enthroned in the Father’s love
Destined to die, poured out for all mankind
God’s only Son, perfect and spotless one
He never sinned but suffered as if He did

All authority
Every victory is Yours
All authority
Every victory is Yours

Savior, worthy of honor and glory
Worthy of all our praise, You overcame
Jesus, awesome in power forever
Awesome and great is Your name, You overcame

Power in hand speaking the Father’s plan
You’re sending us out, light in this broken land

We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb
And the word of our testimony, everyone overcome

The lyrics don’t do this song any justice until you actually add the instrumentation. It’s mind blowing like a lot of the stuff coming from Come And Live. I actually thought I was listening to Ascend The Hill or The Ember Days or a mix of both. The Glorious Unseen and Jeremy Riddle also comes to mind. It has a little bit of an ambient feel, a choir compliments Jeremy’s vocals and the build up towards the end just makes you want to praise and worship God.

- “You Never Let Go” is another popular song originally done by Matt Redman. I personally like Matt Redman’s version better than this remake. It’s faithful to the original, still a good version of the song but it seems to be a little too faithful to the original.

- “Unrestrained” is a good 2nd to last album song. I found myself just sitting back, relaxed, longing for my Creator. It has a little bit of a country or southern vibe and is on the slower side compared to most of the songs on the album. Maybe we’ll hear a little more of this side on future albums.

- Album closer “King Jesus” is soothing to the ears. I thought I was listening to Metavari with lyrics. It’s an excellent album closer for an all around excellent album.

Overall: This is by far Jeremy Camp’s best release to date. Now I’m just waiting on that metal album he promised when I spoke to him at his cd release signing. I also recommend buying the deluxe edition over the regular as it has 4 extra songs (1 new and 3 acoustic).

I’ve been a fan of Jeremy Camp since I first heard “He Will Come Through” close to a decade ago. I was surprised that most of the reviews of this album were somewhat negative, along the lines of “generic, been there, done that”. This review gave an alternate viewpoint and has inspired me to give the album a chance. For that I thank you, Jeremiah.

  2. Brandon says:

Where is the METAL, Mr. Camp? I was hoping for your metal side project by now but you’re still not listening. Come one now, we all want a little metal in our diet and you have the perfect voice for it. Bring it on!!!

    • Anthony says:

Time to listen to “Take My Life” again, the most closest thing we have to anything close to a metal-Jeremy Camp

    • MattR says:

You are right Brandon, he has the perfect voice for it. How about We Scream Out, The METAL project?!!! I’m liking Jesus Saves song. I think it would be even better with a few breakdowns after he sings “I’m crying out” and then…DA DA DUM DUM!! HA! That would be awesome…

  3. Rob J says:

How many cover songs are on this album? I recognize a few of the titles and am curious to know the final tally.

    • Jeremiah says:

I recognized 3. If there were others then they were songs I never heard anyone else perform.

    • Jeremiah says:

I just went through the album booklet and noticed 2 more songs that were written by someone else. Jesus Saves was originally written by Tim Hughes last year and Overcome was written by Jon Egan. So 5 cover and 6 original. I normally don’t like CCM style music but I really enjoy this album.

  4. KeithX says:

Finally got this and gave it a spin. It’s actually very good even though almost half of the songs are remakes. I will say that this might shortly become Mrs. X’s favorite album, at least in the praise and worship category.

  5. MattR says:

Hi KeithX, I like this album too. I don’t have anything by Jeremy Camp and I really like this. I really love Not Ashamed. And I like the acoustic version of the song too on the deluxe edition. Jeremiah is right, the deluxe edition is worth it!

  6. Joshua Clark says:

This was a pretty good album, I was able to get it cheap when it first came out so I thought why not. Even though half the album is covers they are done really well and the originals are pretty solid. One of my favorite worship albums that has come out recently.

  7. MattR says:

Yea Jeremiah, I am really digging “the gun show!” HA! Thanks to your review, it helped me check it out. I was really liking Jesus Saves the first time I heard it, then I read this review and it got me sold! HA! And thanks for telling me how to do the picture thing, I will check that out later.

Joshua…I love Disciple, they are one of my favorites but man…that new album gets BETTER every time I listen to it. I like it more and more with each listen. Eternity is my favorite song off of it. I love the heavy guitars then the sweet chorus. It makes me want to sing along EVERY time. Kevin Young in one of my favorite singers. I don’t think he gets enough credit. Dude OWNS! HA!

    • Joshua Clark says:

Ya a they are totally a sweet band, great singer, and that is a great song. So ya totally agree with what you said!! He should be on a Jeremy Camp album haha

  8. sierra says:

    • Joshua Clark says:

You can can get a digital copy at Amazon,iTunes, or any other place you like to buy digital music. Then you can get a physical copy at Walmart, Target, or any Christian bookstores.

    • MattR says:

Get it at Family Christian Store…they also have the Deluxe Edition. I like it…I got it there!
