Write This Down With Tooth and Nail

So I guess it’s “official” now. Write This Down have been added to the Tooth and Nail roster. You’d already known this if you were following our Album Release List since last year. Am I the only one not excited about this signing? Hopefully the songs on the album are a million times better than what’s on their myspace page. The band’s “Self Titled” full length release is out in stores and online, April 20th.

Listening to some of the stuff on their myspace…haha wow, maybe Brandon Ebel has family in the band or something

The stuff on myspace is good but not great. I like the song “relative ease” though its a softer song. They are good at what they do, which is poppy rock IMO but I like lighter stuff too. Listening to nothing but metal core gets old sometimes.

I expect that their album will be nothing like the Myspace songs since T&N has a pretty good recording budget. However, when your only introduction to this band is what’s playing on their myspace, it doesn’t leave a good taste in your mouth considering those songs aren’t good at all. They should have just deleted all the old stuff off their myspace and waited until they could post a new song. Either way, I don’t have high expectations for this album.

Remember when Huntingtons and the Supertones were on Tooth & Nail? I hope Children 18:3 makes a classic but this label needs not a tooth or a nail, but a fork in it. I wonder if Demon Hunter marketed its album by itself or with help from Tooth & Nail.

  7. About the only band I’ve liked that they’ve signed recently is Sent By Ravens. They’ve been signing some bad bands as of late and I wish instead they would focus on the bands they had. The Classic Crime and others should be bigger than they are. :-/

These guy have been signed for like 2 years now (even though the press release says since 2009).

If you guys would read the press release, they have totally refined and changed their sound.

But if their is that crappy scream in the s/t album, count me out, haha!

Hopefully their stuff will sound like the Alarm the Alarm acoustic song, but with electric instruments. If they had that vibe, it wouldn’t be half bad.

I’m not trying to be too critical. I mean, most of the up and coming artists that I like have been signed to other labels but that doesn’t mean that Tooth and Nail doesn’t look hard. Part of the problem could be the lack of talent pool.

It’s rare that they find something “special” because I’ll even admit the first Children 18:3 CD was highly derivative but really spunky. It’s like the people who called that CD original were basing it on the male-female exchange. People are free to love And Then There Were None, Hawk Nelson, Family Force 5 and Showbread but there is nothing about those artists that makes me feel like I have to go see them.

  11. excited to hear the new sound…perhaps the pop-punk element will become more prominent. a little more “The Used”, a little less br00tal. i believe we’ll be very pleasantly surprised by this release. have some faith, folks!

no, brad, no. we are music fans, therefore we base our opinions on the important things like album art, press photos, what we heard other people say about the band, their earliest demos, what label they are on, what random rumor we heard about them from some guy we don’t know on some website we don’t read and most importantly based on what i had for breakfast.

of course i base my opinion of blood and water entirely upon the collective haircuts your band has. nothing more, nothing less.

    • haha you know what man? i had leftover tamales for breakfast. pardon me for feeling chipper and hopeful!

(sidenote: funny you should mention it, each song on our new album was carefully crafted around how cool our hair looks as we headbang.)

i’m with you, brad, let’s see how it sounds when it’s released or at least wait until a few new tracks are up on myspace!

OK, I am not excited for this one as the style is way overdone…Underoath about 10 years ago. Maybe back to the first album. Thats what my friends say as well…Johnnie though is a cool front man…I love his heart though them being signed to T&N is not cool….

I’ve heard the record, and its pretty solid. It sounds vaguely like the songs on their myspace, but a HUGE improvement. Singing has improved a lot and so have the screaming – less cookie monster and more raspy. That’s not to say there isn’t any “br00tal” screaming, but they are layered well.

I have a feeling this album will shock people. And if you don’t like the full cd, you will like at least half.

T&N has let itself go. They’re not cutting edge as they used to be.

Yikes. I’m a bit surprised T&N signed these guys.

  19. So, my band just got finished opening up for Write This Down and The Classic Crime. Got to really check out Write This Down in a live setting, and I thought I’d report my findings:

    -good energy
-they travel with 2 stage members, making them a 5-piece (2 guitars, bass, vox, drums)
    -good harmonies
-new material sounds like a mixture of DTGL era UnderOath and the late Twelve Gauge Valentine, with a few songs that remind me of The Wedding.

final thoughts: great beards. the lead singer looks like Rasputin from that cartoon Anastasia. for serious.

  20. p.s. – Alarm The Alarm sounds really strong live. I really feel like with some good production behind them, this new album could be rather boss. I am little tired of hardcore and heavy music, but i feel like this could be a really fun release, bringing in some “The Used”-like elements.

I’ve heard the new album and it’s COMPLETELY different.. It actually sounds professional and I actuslly liked it.. I cant stand the stuff on their myspace.

  22. I actually saw these guys before I went and listened to their demos, and their demos do not compare to the band live at all.
They have surprisingly, and refreshingly good harmonies live.
Being a drummer, I have to say that theirs is very solid, and entertaining.
So much about them reminds me of Taking Back Sunday, except with screams.
They are absolutely not the next big thing, visually boring, but if you want a completely solid live performance, check out these guys.
I’ll definitely pay to see them again.

I’ll give the new album a listen but I’m not holding my hopes high. If all I have to judge is their myspace songs, well in that case I’ll give them a D. “F” is for failure and I don’t think they have achieved that status quite yet ;) I know T&N is a label bent on producing polished studio material so I expect this will be something of quality though you never know in this economic climate.

P.S. I appreciate the guys in Blood and Water coming on here and lending their opinions towards this band, it gives me a better impression of the future prospects we might find on the release.

Just saw these guys on the tour they are doing with The Classic Crime. Live, I thought they were really solid. Not the best band you will ever hear, but they were much better than their Myspace suggests.

I saw them at Calvary Chapel Church in Houston not to long ago. On tour with “Diciple” & “Project 86″ and they were Electric!
I like the band’s presence onstage and off, such Goof Balls.
They stayed loooong after the show talking with everyone, and selling stuff. Can’t leave out the fact that this band is Christian and is not ashamed of it! : )
