EMI Financial Mess?

EMI could be on the fast track towards financial ruin according to some insiders. I wonder what this means for the EMI Christian Music Group? [absolutepunk]

Funny this came up.. I went to pre-order a CD from the states today.. got to the end of the check out process to see this “”Due to EMI Distribution policy, the items in your order marked with “EMI” cannot be shipped to a non-US address”

There is no way I will buy the CD in Australia as it would cost me $20-$30 down here rather than the $10 + P&H from the USA … so all in all they have lost a sale.
I will get the CD from the band next time I see them live (which will save me more, as there will be no P&H charges).

I think they are getting rather greedy.. and with that kind of attitude it would be no surprise if they lose sales and go under.

EMI have been a leader in the distribution market … hence why inpop signed up a deal with them.. but their business ethics are going to see not only a loss of sales for EMI but for the labels as well.

With itunes and other download sites alike it, EMI can not afford to be greedy, can not afford to sit back and run as they use to.. they need to get smart and do all they can to get sales rather that doing what they are doing now.

EMI CMG will also go down as a result, which is not a good thing for many labels, bands, businesses or consumers.

It is not unreasonable that a business losing large amounts of money would downsize and be unable to ship to non-U.S. addresses, unless I misunderstand. I’ve also noticed that Tooth and Nail releases (distributed by EMI) are no longer present in large quantities at the U.S. Best Buys I’ve been to in the past year or so like they used to. I remember when Dead Poetic’s Vices record came out and one location had several copies the day of release, but I couldn’t even find a single Best Buy in the area that had the new Neon Horse album.

This kinda stuff always makes me sad since I don’t download illegally. I don’t mind an industry succeeding as long as it does so ethically.
