Laz from ALLORNOTHING

How has A City Built on Its Dead been received?

Honestly, I think a lot better than we expected it to be.  People have told us they loved this album and others say different but in the end this album is our way of worshipping God through the talents he’s given us.

How long have you guys played together and how did you meet?

We have been playing together since March of 2007, before that we were in previous local bands that knew each other and that’s kind of how we met oh and through MySpace also ha-ha go figure.

I am sure when you were in the studio you knew it was going to be a good album but did you expect it to be this good?

Actually, we were nervous as to how the public would receive our album, we’ve never really played these songs out of our area before we went into the studio so having it go out and getting a great reaction is really a blessing.

Why Ethos Records?

At the time, we had heard about ethos and what they were doing and we really were all for it and they contacted us about joining the ethos family so after a short band meeting and some prayer we proudly signed with them and still to this day have no doubts in our mind and hearts that this was a great decision!

What bands have influenced your sound?

Definitely have to say a lot of older solid state bands such as Living Sacrifice, Norma Jean (the Josh Scogin days), Zao, Blindside ETC… As well as bands like P.O.D., the chariot, haste the day, August Burns Red, and Mychildren Mybride.

Who have you toured with so far and who would you like to tour with in the future?

Our first tour was with Fayda from Gilroy, CA. in Feb. then in April and July we went out with In The Midst of Lions from St. Louis, MO then in August we did a run to Tomfest with Sovereign Strength from Antelope Valley. They were all awesome tours! We would love to tour with a lot of the bands that influenced our sound, and I’m sure it’s all in god’s timing when we do get those opportunities!

Do you consider ALLORNOTHING a band or ministry or both?

Yes, all of us here in the ALLORNOTHING camp consider this a ministry and band because it is only because of God that we are able to be where we are at today! And we love what we do and wouldn’t have it any other way!

What does your tour schedule look like in 2010?  How many days do you plan on staying out on the road?

It’s looking pretty busy as of right now! We are heading out again in Feb. for a month by ourselves right after we get home from this January tour with We Set Fire. We plan on being on the road double what we did last year so basically around 8 months give or take a few days.

I know this album just came out but do you have a plan on when you might start recording again?

As of right now, we don’t have a set time as to when we plan on going in the studio, but once we start getting back into the writing mode it should be shortly after that. We’ll definitely keep you guys updated!

What do you guys do when you are not touring?

All of us are involved in our local churches playing worship or helping out with outreach events, and we work some of us at schools and others side jobs. We also love to spend time with our loved ones and gaming.

What is the worst thing that has happened to you guys on tour?

Getting a flat on our van in the middle of Arizona in the desert in the middle of July, we’ll leave it that. If you’ve been there in the summer you’ll understand.

What would you guys be doing if you weren’t playing music?

I can say I don’t know what we would be doing, probably a whole lot of nothing because music plays a very big part of our lives.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you guys on stage?

Having Laz’s floorboard volume pedal off on the start of a song, mind you know this was a showcase for 2 different labels. Yeah I got it after the show don’t worry I had to buy a new guitar head with no floor board. We all laugh about it now, kind of ha-ha

Who is the prankster of the band?  Any memorable pranks?

Our whole band loves to pull pranks on each other; really there is never a dull moment! The most memorable would have to be when we had a light guy he would always fall asleep in the van with his mouth wide open, so every time he did we would always put something in his mouth. Caramel, Kool-Aid powder, water and every time he would wake up choking like it was the end of the world. After a while he got the hint and slept with one eye open.

What do fans do to really get you going while you are playing?

Definitely have to say when they get the old school mosh and circle pits, don’t get me wrong we love hardcore dancing, but there’s nothing like some old school push mosh to get us going!

What is the craziest pit you have caused?

I would have to say at one of the biggest shows we had the opportunity to play which was in Las Vegas at the Thomas and Mack arena, it was such a blessing! You can watch some of the pit action here and on YouTube also here.

What are your top 5 albums?

1. Living Sacrifice-The Hammering Process

2. Norma Jean- Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child

3. P.O.D. – The Fundamental Elements of Southtown

4. The Chariot- Everything Is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is dead, and nothing is bleeding

5. Mychildren Mybride- Unbreakable

What is in your iPod or CD changer now?  Anything embarrassing like The Backstreet Boys?

A Praise and Worship mix actually, we were never big fans of backstreet boys BUT give us some Katy Perry or Lady Gaga and it’s going down!

Is there anything that the IVM family can keep in prayer for you?

Yes, please pray that our plans for this year would run smoothly and that God would have his favor over the band and that everywhere we play would be open to the message and gospel of Jesus Christ. If there’s ever anything you guys need prayer for please let us know.
