I always thought this was the case.
I’m thinking he gave it some thought at one point and then when he said something about it everyone blew it up and he realized he couldn’t do it anyhow.
It would be more plausible to write 50 songs with 1 representing each state in some way(even though a whole state can’t be summed up in one song) or even 48 songs(since he’s already done to). Is this really a big surprise to anyone? Not me
I meant “Since he’s already done 2…oops
I didn’t think he was actually going to complete all 50. But it would have been cool if he hit a couple. Oh well. Still one of my all time favorite artists.
He should just record covers of all 50 state songs.
More seriously, what Nate said sums up my thoughts.
I think it was just gonna be a running them, a record for each states, so he said “I’m going to do ONE for EACH state.” He once said in an interview, something along the lines of “I didn’t expect that people would hear it as some sort of gospel!”
Unfortunately, in the wake of Michigan, it was some sort of gospel.
The BQE is not exciting. The best thing about it is the vinyl packaging, featuring “futuristic graffiti.” I think he should just stick to his regular songs. His non-album stuff that was released after Illinoise have been really amazing, so he DOES still have it — or at least did before the BQE, if he means what he said in that article. If he does do another themed album, it’s not wholly unlikely that he would choose to do it on birds, as he had been writing and performing songs that were about birds…
