Lumberjack to Cease Operations

I got this news from Lambgoat thanks to David M. Apparently Lumberjack Mordam Group will cease operations as a distributor. This just happens to be one of Facedown Record’s distributors as well as a distributor for labels like Ferret Music, Jade Tree, Eulogy, and Trustkill. This is a bummer to those in the music industry and further shows the declining state of the industry itself. No word yet on how this will impact the future of Facedown Records.

I think Facedown switched distributors a while back anyways.

  • David M says:

Yeah, I have no clue about Facedown, but I remember when I was on Harvest Earth they went through Lumbrojack. But Harvest Earth is pretty much dead, anyways.

  • kavin says:

facedown uses RED don’t they. or is that the same thing? or am i way off?

  • LenIVM says:

RED, and I think it is different.
They WERE on lumberjack about a year or two ago I believe??

  • David M says:

Yeah, they were on Lumberjack. But that’s what I’m saying, I have no clue about now. Obviously not anymore. Ha.

  • Stephen says:

Facedown Switched to Sony Red I believe or a sub-label of that probably about 3-4 years ago…

  • Phil Recognition says:

how is harvest earth almost dead?? letter to the exiles, gray lines of perfection, saving grace, stand your ground, all good bands. and it appears they’re about to or already have signed the goodnight horizon

  • David M says:

I’ve talked to one of the said bands and the label is fairly defunct, which sucks because that band had turned down another label to be signed by HE. I mean, I was in a band on HE last year, and even at that point, I was seeing signs. Don’t get me wrong, those ARE good bands, but I’m talking about the label itself. There’s nothing going on.

  • I used Lumberjack for 4-5 years until they merged with Mordam.

  • Brent says:

Yeah they’ve owed labels money for several years now. Labels were switching even then because of losing money and it not being worth a lawsuit. It IS a bumout about the music industry. Whole new generation, and it actually saddens me.

  • JoshIVM says:

Most of the bigger labels (Ferret, Trustkill, Facedown, etc.) were smart and left for other distro’s years ago. Others like Eulogy have left in the last year or so. Some of the remaining labels (Asian Man, Tribunal, CI, Second Nature, and more) have started a new company already.

If anyone is interested you can read the post at PunkNews (http://www.punknews.org/article/34253) and see what appears to be lots of label people commenting on the situation and their relationships with Lumberjack.
