Sweet! And just a shade under 4 years too! I really think this is going to be a make it or break it album for me with these guys. I loved their first album, but I’m almost positive she’s stopped screaming altogether and who knows where their musical styles have gone in 4 years. Alot can happen in 4 years.

its true. i think theyve probably lost a large amount of their original fanbase by playing out one album for so long.

She screamed incorrectly on their first album. She actually screamed and didn’t “sing scream” so as not to damage her vocal chords. I know it sounds stupid but there is a real difference. But I don’t think she can scream at all anymore because she did so much damage.

  6. That’s what I heard too Tyler. Something like screaming with your vocal chords will just tear them up and you are supposed to scream from your gut. She had to cancel a few tours because she was shredding herself to bits.

    I don’t doubt it…
I’m a vocalist, and I had quite a history of screaming the wrong way.

When I first started growling/screaming I used to do it quietly.
It sounded pretty sick in a microphone, but I had to turn the amp up pretty loud in order to hear it with my band playing.
We all liked how it sounded when we practiced, I could get pretty low sounding death metal growls without much effort at all.
We had no reason to believe I was doing it wrong…
Until we started playing shows… and night after night we had sound issues, the sound guy couldn’t pick up my scream.
In order to do so, he’d have to jack up the mic… then it would of course feedback like an agitated monkey.

So, after playing quite a few frustrating shows I thought maybe I’m doing it wrong, maybe I need to just scream at the top of my lungs. Tried that… and it sounded alright. Definitely not as cool as before. And it took away my singing voice almost immediately.
But, I told myself that if I kept going, kept pushing… that it would get better. It wasn’t until I tasted blood on stage that I realized that I was going about this in the wrong way.

Through prayer and practice I now use my diaphragm for growling/screaming… it’s much more powerful and loud, volume is never an issue anymore… it sounds a ton better, and I can go back and forth between screaming/growling and then singing with no strain or issues.

It sucks if she screwed up her voice, that is definitely a scary thing.

Wow, I love Flyleaf, their album that was released in 2005, and their EP was amazing! And yes, I found it weird that It took them so long to release another album. That’s too bad she hurt her vocal chords. I saw them live at the end of 2008, and she screamed then, but It really wasn’t too much. If she quit screaming all together then it must of been a fairly recent decision. Which is alright, they’re still be amazing, and parents will like them more now!
