Apparently to get anything different and creative in the circles of “worship” music we have to go outside of the United States. When you aren’t too busy practicing songs from Hillsong, you might want to check out this talented band from Ireland. That is, of course, unless you refuse to sing songs in church if they aren’t 1970’s pop rock or 1870’s hymns. It almost saddens me that it only took a few driving guitars and well placed keys to appreciate a worship CD for being more than just a prototypical worship band. Now don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t quite reach epic Leeland Sound of Melodies status, but there is enough in here to give the chance to reflect upon the encouraging words of wisdom, to worship the Lord and to have the ears pleased. I truly believe that when worshiping the Lord through music that He deserves the best, just as He does through all forms of worship, so its nice to hear something that can be used within the context of a congregation and an ipod.
Overall: The album (and individual songs) run a bit long (6 or 7 minute songs are a bit difficult for a punk fan like myself to handle) and tend to run on the slow side at times, but this would be great for one of those afterglow type services or more reflective times.

May I add that these guys are the original writers of the song God of This City that Chris Tomlin (and also Passion movement) made popular. Everyone should check the video of the story behind the song from youtube – it’s just plain awesome how the song was birthed.
I can appreciate the story behind that song but I really can’t stand listening to it or playing it during worship.
Like it was mentioned in the review its a super long song (Bluetree’s version not Tomlin’s) Not only that but its also extremely repetitive. I can’t even count how many times they sing the chorus in that song.
Well I think that the song is awesome and my heart burns when I sing it, no matter how many times around. It such a prophetic song proclaiming the Kingdom of God!
One thing I have noticed with worship stuff is that you can just play songs for the sake of doing it etc. etc. and in the end it was another worship session. Or when The Spirit is really in the house and people are just sucked into the presence, all the repetition and other annoyances seem to disappear… The best worship times I have had have been very simple musically, not even many words but Holy Spirit has been so clearly present that he has given a whole new life to the whole setting which otherwise would just be very meh.
I’m totally on the same page as you, Fusse, although the music snob in me does resist the repetitiveness like Jordan does. Anyway, it’s a super powerful song that I’ve done in worship many times.
to each his own I suppose.
@Josh: completely agreed. we play that song constantly and the Spirit never fails to be powerfully present during it. the story behind the song is incredible.
i also own this album, and agree with the general attitude of the review. the songs can get draggy and it’s possible to get bored with them, honestly. i must admit i’d rather listen to the much-bashed hillsong. sorry. i really don’t understand any bashing towards hillsong. sure, they’re extremely influential. they have a million copies. everyone sings them. but it’s because they were original first, they pushed the boundaries first, and they’re just plain good. everyone followed after them.
and i’m also quite disappointed with the exhausted claim of “there’s no original worship music in the US”. you haven’t looked hard enough, quite obviously. try a little. ever heard of jonathan david helser? songs of water? morningstar church? don’t give up on worship here just yet.
and i’m sick of worship being assessed as a genre. “there’s not enough originality, everyone copies hillsong, church worship is all the same and purposeless…” how about we forget our snobbery for half a second and realize that worship is the way we are created to breathe, the connection from our Creator to our own hearts, the life we are supposed to live, and the all we are supposed to offer. it’s more than just sound waves. if it’s not different enough, create it. in your own way. worship through what isn’t typically defined as worship music, but has the same passion for the same purpose.
there is so much amazing authentic worship music coming out of the US. you’d have to be blind to miss the revolution that is happening in churches all over our country.
Hey! Bluetree knows what there doing there music is totally amazing!! When you are worshiping it doesn’t matter how many times you repeat a chorus if Gods in the house your going to get something good out of worship. (Trust me) There song is a God filled, spirit packed, ball of emotion that makes me cry every time I hear it! (of course I am a girl so my emotions are close to the surface but hey) Jordan you make me sad just because something is repeated over and over doesn’t mean that its not good! :( If your hearts really worshiping you will want the song to go on forever! :) Yeah! I LOVE WORSHIPING MY KING !!!!!!!!!!
Livi you are right on! I love to worship my king and never get tiered of a song repeating over and over again. (Jordan) Worship is the best when I hear Bluetree I want to get on my knees and cry out to my father in heaven so they must be doing something right! :)
