zao is not a christian band in my opinion. read the interview with them in HM magazine and then rethink that statement. That is definately something that would hinder me from believing a band is christian. and just because it is drinking/ being drunk and not an eleven point star why is that "understandable"? seriously man think about what you say before you just spout off nonsense.

ok so your saying that zao n shit, well really, if you read enough shit about them, they started out being a christian band and now none of the original members are still in the band, and if you read around enough, they no longer consider themselves a christian band, yes some of there lyrics have some christain meaning but that doesnt make them a christain band, same with killswitch engage, they played at ozzfest and durring there show they asked the crowd if they wanted to become christians and led them in a prayer, yet go to youtube, watch their live videos, they swear, the gutarist talks about wanting to have sex with 16 year olds, thats not how a christain should act

Nah, that's completely fine. If he's already started, then I'll let him! I'm not the best with metal reviews, anyways, but man. This cd is so freaking good.

I just emailed you, though, Brandon. I had tried before, but I don't know if it went through.

That definitely sucks if they were drunk at a show, but I HIGHLY doubt they were. I saw them this last summer, and Brook shared a lot about what their songs were about and what they were about as a band. He didn't speak as much as Sleeping Giant (but not many do), but the Gospel was presented and Christ was represented, I can assure you of that.

is this Ian from RG?

and I don't think the triquetra is a good symbol at all. I haven't protested their shows or anything, but I would advise people not to get it tattooed on themselves, and neither would I advise the star of david, which is not a Judean symbol, but one of paganism and witchcraft.

Both the star of david and the 'trinity' symbol go much further back into pagan culture than they do in church history.

it is a way to witness because we are sitting here talking about it. Impending Doom are unique in that some how they have taken an entire genre over despite the fact that their lyrics arnt about gore or death, but about God's Word. They are taking what was once considered "evil" and twisting it to honor God, even if its in their own way. P.O.D. used the Catholic symbol for the trinity as their main go-to graphic for a long time, and nobody said anything about it. In fact, it looks almost exactly like a symbol that Wickens (sp?) have adopted as their own.

Controversy leads to understanding. these guys are part of a group of bands that have very radical ideas and means of expression. We could sit here forever debating over what we are supposed to feel or not, but the fact is that God has chosen this path for them for some reason.

I dont know if I have ever heard these guys claim edge (which I think is more troublesome for Christians to endorse than anything printed on a t-shirt), so why are we talking about them drinking? Who really cares....

and Impending Doom is deathcore....not grind

Plenty of christian bands do this. I'm not saying that Impending Doom got drunk or not. Zao has had to cancel shows because they were drunk. Now, I'm not slamming them (the drunkenness was explained on the band's own DVD) but it happens.

I really wish I knew a good answer for if that symbol is a good way to witness. I don't know how to determine it except look at scripture and pray.

there is more than one impending doom too... just throwin that out there.

But if you can't stand the band cause of their music... thats fine with me.

Devin- Don't spread rumors that aren't true. "Yeah I heard from a friend of a friend of a cousin of his dad who is a friend of a another friend who just met a new friend who's son said that they were stoners and drank all the time" blah blah blah. Come on now, I swear, reading these stupid rumors on my website really upsets me. That's why I end up closing some of these threads.

Thanks, Nodes. Those are some really good points. I wasn't trying to call Impending Doom a bad band, or that they're horrible people. I've just never been a fan of their repentagram idea and such.

do you mean "sick" as a compliment or as a perversion?

also, i think we need to prayerfully consider what we say about this band and really try to discern content, not their hearts, because that's what the Lord looks at, and He's the only One who can see that. i saw them interview at cornerstone at the press tent and they seemed sincere. i can't judge that and i won't. however, when slipknot and hundreds of years of the occult use a symbol that probably has been used for literal spiritual evil, i don't think Christians can just decide to pick it up and start using it. i don't see the difference in seriousness between the pentagram used in masonic lodges, wiccan rituals, black metal artwork and seriousness of the 11 pointed star. it doesn't take long to find blatent uses of the logo for satanic purposes. yes, i'm using Google, but i don't want to get so far into darkness when i should be looking for God.

maybe I'm the ultra-conservative that Petra was referencing in the beginning of Judas Kiss, when the back-masking turned out to say "What are you looking for the Devil for, when you ought to be looking for the Lord?"

it's true, we need to be seeking God's face more than pointing out the alleged evil in music. What we should remember is that sin is a lie dressed up as truth. that's how it started in Eden.

While the repentagram is a little shady, Impending Doom is one of the few bands that brings the Gospel to every show they play

I'm going to have to side with Nodes on this. As Christians, we can't afford to affiliate ourselves with sin, at all. No matter WHAT our intentions are. Glad to see someone else doesn't like the "repentagram" deal.

it's not reversing it though. intentions are no substitute for truth. if it's a satanic symbol, it's a satanic symbol.

I agree that they are a little strange sometimes with the symbols......but they don't really mean any harm. They just thought that reversing the pentagram would be cool.

and 11 pointed stars are STILL a symbol used by pagans and the occult. i don't mean pagans in a non-Christian sense, but people who would claim wicca or paganism. I DO NOT understand how someone can use this symbol in a positive sense.

yeah. i'm not saying anyone is at fault in some serious way for listing them incorrectly, but metal is not grindcore and vice versa. a lot of bands incorrectly label themselves. there are some grind parts to their music, but that doesn't make it grind.

either way, listen to exhale, nasum, or phobia for a sample of modern grind that is still actually grind. bring me the horizon is false.

Hey, I didn't write that bio, it was found on their myspace page. Secondly, I went to Facedown's website and found a better bio so I reposted it above.

two...no three things:

1. Grindcore is one word.
2. Impending Doom is not Grindcore.
3. It matters to those who listen to it.
