new?
Jon, my thoughts exactly.
I think they mean…new to them.
who is maylene and the suns of disaster? -_-
Dallas Taylor (ex-Underoath). They started the Southern metal thing…which is basically dead so now they can go back to being original.
Seriously, new? That should be our next poll–the newest old artist.
My reason exactly for disliking MTV…Man that is sooooo irritating! Before you know it they’ll become the new “it” band for MTV and all the scene kids around the world will be saying…”Like Omigosh…yeah…I SOOOO knew about them when they were…*whispers* underground!…YEAH…I know right…*
>=[
haha, lliam finn is in that list. he’s from new zealand.
but also, some of these artists have been out there for three or four years AT LEAST. i mean, shai hulud is in there…they’ve been round for AGES…
VOTE MYRIAD. Unfortunately, I’m at work, so I can’t vote for either.
Frikkin’ Shai Hulud is in there?
yeah…what is it the kids are saying these days? oh right…THAT IS WACK!
I Went To One Of Thier Live Shows,
And East Bound And Down Played Right Before They Went On, And I Don’t Know Why Im Telling Anyone This.
lol…seriously….they’re “new” to that market. you guys and your indie “street cred”. you’re missing the point. the point is that maylene’s been nominated for an award by mtv and hopefully they’ll win it and open up more people to their music by doing so. geez, get over yourselves…i wonder what it’s like for you all at night when you’re trying to look yourselves in the mirror and see if there’s any integrity left.
Listen To “Don’t Ever Cross A Trowell” Album While You Take A Shower.
It’s So Weird.
*Not Album, But Song.
Silly Me.
grant > everybody else
“grant > everybody else”
Cheerleader. :)
Uh….
grant – saying things about someone’s integrity is a pretty big call to make from a few comments on a website.
i don’t want to start an argument, but i think you also might be missing the point.
by calling a band “new” when they’ve been around for a while, you’re making light of the time they’ve taken to hone their sound, and actually get good enough to be taken seriously. it kinda creates this perception that you don’t have to work hard for anything anymore, that if you form a band then you’re going to “make it”.
it’s not that i think every artist should remain underground, it’s that mtv shouldn’t just pounce on whatever happens to be cool and call it “new”. if bands have worked hard for the recognition, they should be touted as a band that has worked their way up, not a new sensation that appeared out of nowhere.
new or not, maylene is freakin’ delicious.
pantera meets skynyrd, with some barbecue ribs in a barn
omg, sam! thanks for reminding me that maylene’s done a ton of hard work. what was i thinking??? i totally wasn’t there back in the day circa 2004/2005 when they posted a demo to their myspace and dallas did an interview with hm mag as they checked up on him to see how things we’re going while he was working a real 9 to 5 job. and they (hm) did the shoutout thing about maylene.
…
no, you’re missing the point. who honestly cares that we know it alls were there way back when maylene was playing rinky dink shows in legion halls without stages on crappy sound systems? there’s a real arrogance that the indie scene has about ourselves in terms of “we were there and they were not” that is really pointless and makes us come off as pretentious jerks. case in point, kimberly’s statement. i don’t know her personally, but it’s not the fault of any kid who hasn’t been exposed to maylene yet for whatever reason, but will be exposed to them through something like mtv. maylene’s just now legitimately breaking through to the next level and for that market THEY ARE NEW.
…
i mean, honestly, all of us sometimes come off as that jerk in freshman level college courses that’s always raising their hand to point out something they think is just gonna WOW everyone else in class. who cares? just sit back and enjoy the ride and maybe, just maybe, dallas taylor and maylene will be recognized for all that hard work.
(btw, there’s no need to reply to this. i’ve come and set you all straight. you can now rest easy knowing that it’s alright to be that indie guy and keep your mouth shut at the same time. things are cool. let’s all be like fonzy and just be cool, baby. good day.)
Grant,
I would respect your opinions/views a lot more if they were expressed in a more considerate manner. There is no need to go on a major rant telling everyone just how right/knowledgeable you are.
Respectfully,
Colt
wow. sorry bout that.
the new comment wasnt trying to collectively say “the scene has known about those bands for years”
It was a dig at mtv. yes im glad that mtv gives bands attention and helps bands we like get a bigger follow. what makes me mad is that MTV never finds actual new bands and helps them out. the bands have to work for years and the small websites and street teams and fans and small time reviewers all work hard to give the bands exposure and then years later mtv comes along and gives those same bands way more exposure with little effort. when MTV goes to indie concerts and listens to bands play songs off their first album and gets them onto tv, then I will be impressed.
we do all the groundwork and mtv takes all the credit. this isnt about me or any one individually. this is about my displeasure with how bad the media sucks at giving talented indie bands a chance.
Jon
Stop arguing about my band, you big bunch of ninnie heads.
Hahahaha.
Bowling balls.
Just kidding. :)
But seriously. There’s too much contention on this site! I don’t know you, Grant, but I hope that you can come back and try to post more understanding. True, some of the things said might come off as elitist. But only if you interpret them that way. We’re all human. Don’t forget you are, too. Which gives us more reason to be loving, rather than condemning, and try to lift each other up! Like I know what you mean, because I know people who are like that. But when you leave comments like that, it goes against what you’re saying and makes you the elitist.
Let’s just drop it like it’s hot.
Bowling balls, fo realz.
Don’t know you personally* That’s what I meant.
I dont know why any of us are arguing. I mean for gosh sakes, MTV is taking time out to recognize music we all listen to, we should be proud of that fact. Sure they’re not technically “new” artists but in the eyes of everyone outside our little scene, they are new. We could argue about all the bands they have put up for voting because most of them surely aren’t “new” by any means.
I Love Everyone.
I DONT KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT!!!!
oh. and its not the freshman 18 year old kids that bothered me in college, it was the 45 year old that is taking ONE class and has all the time in the world to study for that one class and raises his hand every twelve minutes to tell some anecdote from his life that no one else cares about.
grant – look i didn’t mean to offend you, and your tone sounds like you got really riled up about the whole thing.
if you’re saying that we should all chill about it an let it take its course, that’s cool. your delivery could use some work though.
cheers.
Dude, I wish. I love his vocals.
tyler, they all get on my nerves.
sam, it’s the net. get over it. cool?
i certainly hope maylene wins though.
Dallas is really commenting here. Sorry David (One Crushing Blow) for saying you were Dallas. I feel a little stupid here but what does it mean when someone says “Bowling Balls”? I hear a lot of people use that term.
Hey OCB, let’s see how many bowling ball impacts a Brandon Jones arachnid can survive the impact of.
grant – yeah we’re cool, though i’ve never felt that changing your persona just because it’s the net is something that people should use as an excuse. to me that’s just like saying “i’m having a bad day” as an excuse to be less than considerate.
i don’t know, i’m over the argument, so everyone should have a good day. it’s friday here, so i’m stoked.
really? where are you from that it’s friday already?
It’s Already September In Alaska.
new zealand my friend. i thought that you would have known that already. i talk about it all the time…
it’s down the bottom of the world, near australia, where hobbits and orcs live in harmony.
dang. people get bent out of shape so easily these days. its pathetic. seriously just chill
NO, YOU CHILL, ALEXM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
sweet, im post 38.
pretentious jerks…
bahahahahaha!
Glad that argument was squashed before I saw my name lol
Dang it! I wanted to be post 38…I’ll have you hanged for this!
No…Brandon…I got bored and put my name as Dallas. hahahahaha.
I’m just saying, I wish I was because I love his vocals.
I don’t think I did know that sam30, that’s pretty cool though. glad to have you here on IVM.
thankyou, good sir. i enjoy being here.
Tyler rules for that anchorman reference.
You woke the bears, why did you do that?!
you’re a gentleman and a scholar.
